What I learned in 2010; The Year that Was.

I am thankful for having been through such a wide array of experiences and emotions, all culminating with the man sitting here today writing this. I’ve come to not only know who I am on a deeper level, but I’ve also become more grounded in that person.

Some things I learned, some I relearned, some were reaffirmed. Here’s the list.

Wherever you go, there you are, so lead, never follow.

You can’t change a person’s nature.

You don’t know someone until you’ve seen their bad side.

I’m great at building businesses, okay at best when it comes to running them.

I care about money much less than I thought, but I am more committed than ever to accumulating it.

You have no idea what is going to happen, you will always be surprised at where you are.

Whether you are at your highest or your lowest, you never know it at the time.

Don’t count on anyone but your closest family.

I’m really proud of myself for the courage I’ve shown.

I have no interest in accumulating more than will fit inside a Range Rover. Give me my books, a laptop, a couple good pieces of art, a blackberry, my keepsakes and some clothes. Goodbye.

I should stop spending thousands furnishing new places, because I seem to suffer from bouts of wanderlust.

I need my alone time.

Never, ever – get back together with someone who doesn’t give a fuck about you. But, finally knowing you are better than that provides a level of closure that almost makes it worth it.

Don’t get her name tattooed on you. For fuck’s sake.

Laugh at everything. Laugh now, laugh then, laugh in bed, laugh all the way to the bank.

My life is a combination of Vanilla Sky and the Count of Monte Cristo.

When it comes to the company you keep, take a look at their motives.

I never forget a transgression. It’s really hard for me ever to forgive them at times.

My happiest times are when I am doing the things I want to do, for me.

My family means way more to me than I knew.

I crave routine.

I’ll never settle or sleep good until I’ve done it.

Face the fact of life that people are in it for themselves and their family, so unless you are a part of that group or are going to be, we are still cave people who are capable of doing terrible things to others. Some people are going to do whatever it takes to get their version of happy.

Build you own family and provide for them. Make your place in the world.

Demographics.

Never enter into a business partnership unless they are writing you checks for beaucoup money.

Attorney’s will rape you.

Do everything you can that makes you happy. Live in that place, live those activities. Be the change.

….etc etc
